Summary: Marji lives in Iran and endures changes in regimes and philosophy over the course of her youth. This is a coming of age story that is mired in trajedy and loss that is the result of war and greed. Marji is a revolutionary at heart and is lovingly taught by her parents to see the world differently. Finally, the change and control brought on by the religious fundimentalism that took Iran in its tight, oppressive grip, becomes too much for Marji's family. They end up sending her to Austria at the end of the novel.
