February 2023: Resilient

  Title: Resilient Author: John Eldredge Publisher: Thomas Nelson Genre: Christian/Self-Help   Pages: 206 Rating: 1.5/5 Stars Summary: Eldredge does his best to revive Christians who may now feel weary or despondent when it comes to their faith. Although written with good intentions, I found the book to be pendantic, simplistic, scattered, and very difficult to get through. Eldredge uses real life and biblical examples to help readers understand the different ways we need to restore our souls and remain resilient post COVID-19 Pandemic. The book felt more to be a plug for his new Resilient App. A Good Read's review of this book says it best, " I think there are some very good things about this book, but there are also some things that are not so helpful, and plenty more that's really just fluff, mixes of pat evangelical rhetoric with metaphor and religious jargon. January 2023: Good Inside

Title: Good Inside Author: Becky Kennedy Publisher: Harper Wave Genre: Non-Fiction-Self Help Pages: 336 Rating: 3.5/5 Stars Summary: Dr. Becky talks about parenting, but also talks about how we can reflect on how we were parented. The biggest takeaway would include thinking about what mannerisms/behaviors brought me closer to my parents and what brought me shame and distance. The last bit of the book discusses parenting techniques for various problems, and this is where the book slowed down for me.
